Meeting Summary December 16, 2010

Quorum present.

Call to order by Board chair at 6:04 pm. Prayer for Scecina by all. Chair welcomes new Board member Jim Moloy.

Mission Effectiveness Committee Report

  • Catholic Identity Project: Committee and staff are pricing signs, symbols, banners, etc., to tell our story inside the building, with goal to complete first phase of project during summer 2011.
  • School history: Committee members reading book about history of SMHS by former faculty member in order to gain a common understanding of school history.

President’s Report

  • 1-year look back examples: While our work is never finished, significant projects once dreams or future possibilities are now reality or moving toward reality in measurable ways, including the: Eastside Catholic School Partnership, science lab renovation, strategic planning, and Mission Effectiveness Committee. Also of note, the Learning Differences Program recently sponsored a school wide collection of 1000 pairs of pants and is presenting $1000 check to Beggars for the Poor. President impressed by great delivery and depth of student speeches on topics including the death penalty, breast cancer awareness, smoking, and North-South Korean relations.
  • Eastside Catholic School Partnerships: upcoming discussion topics include Scecina’s identity to Partnership schools, and synergies and challenges that may exist among partner schools.

Science Lab Presentation

  • Overview: entheos Architects has modified construction documents for the science lab after meeting with science instructors. The Archdiocese has approved the documents.
  • New Layout: A mobile teacher cart/desk will be at the east end of the room which features fresh air ventilation and six five-person work stations, one of which is handicap accessible. Each work station has a sink equipped with acid neutralization, electrical power, water, and vacuum lines. Data lines will be wired for use at later time. A low wall separates the teacher prep and instructional spaces. Dry wall will cover pipes. Acoustical 10-ft ceiling includes rough-in for ceiling projector.

Meeting adjourned at 9:00 pm followed by Christmas Social with food generously provided by Margi Logan-- SMHS alumnae, former school caterer, and mother of graduates.
