2014 Commencement Reflection

 Olivia Page, Class of 2014

To provide the student perspective on commencement activities, we invited Olivia Page '14 to reflect on Scecina Memorial's Graduation Ceremony. Olivia is a graduate of Our Lady of Lourdes School. She will attend DePauw University, where she has received the Trustee Award, Alumni Legacy Award, and the Ruth Clark and Phillip Holton Memorial Scholarship.

Graduation, we actually made it this far. For some it was a relief to finally be done with projects, classes, and school in general. However, there is always a little fear for the uncertain future. What will college be like? Will I stay friends with my Scecina classmates? What should I be when I grow up? All of these questions plague a senior at graduation. This makes it difficult to enjoy the sense of accomplishment we should feel.

The graduation ceremony helped to recognize all of the class of 2014's many success stories. From honoring our country to throwing our caps, Scecina organized the commencement in true Crusader fashion. We graduated together as a whole, not as individuals, because we were each allowed equal congratulations. Together we teared up at the speeches and proudly moved our tassels. Graduation was an experience that reminded us what the past four years were for. Although we might go down separate paths, we will always remember the commencement we shared and all of the memories. The class of 2014 may separate, but it will always be united.
