On April 10, Betsy Griffin '13 (Holy Spirit) was recognized as an Indiana Academic All-Star at an awards luncheon held in the Indianapolis Roof Ballroom.
Each accredited high school in Indiana can nominate one student to be considered for this honor. The following criteria is considered in selecting honorees:
- The score derived from a mathematical formula combining the grade-point average for seven semesters and the SAT/ACT composite score.
- Academic courses.
- Academic achievement.
- Extracurricular activities related to academics.
- Nonacademic extracurricular activities.
- Community service and involvement.
The 2013 Indiana Academic All-Star Selection Committee reviewed nominees from 258 Indiana high school principals. These principals nominated some very impressive students, with 223 nominees having a 3.9 GPA or higher and 165 nominees having a 4.0 GPA.
Betsy was first selected as one of 90 students to be a Regional Academic All-Star. From that group, she was chosen as one of only 40 students to receive the highest honor of "Indiana Academic All-Star".
