Cafeteria renovations underway

The Scecina cafeteria is undergoing renovations during the summer and will be a new, welcoming space for students when they return in August.

I hope everyone enjoyed your Independence Day weekend. It's always a great time to recall our religious liberty and our relatives, friends, and ancestors who risked and even gave their lives to help ensure the existence of the freedom to worship, which allows Scecina Memorial High School to exist as a ministry of the Archdiocese of Indianapolis.

We also remember and thank Scecina alumni veterans who, at great risk and hardship, walked in the inspiring footsteps of Father Thomas Scecina.

At Scecina, July means we're getting closer to a new school year. We're preparing now on many levels to welcome our returning and new students in August for a successful school year.

Summer activities on campus are fully ramped up in anticipation of the new school year. These include professional development for staff; summer athletic conditioning and training programs; summer sports camps for future Crusaders; summer school; interviewing and hiring of new faculty and staff, and capital improvements.

Our main capital improvement this summer is a full-scale cafeteria renovation. We're creating a more welcoming, refreshing, and life-giving space through new lighting, ceiling, flooring, and paint. This improvement is for our students, staff, teams, clubs, alumni groups, and others. The cafeteria renovation is made possible by the financial support of alumni, parents, and other friends through Giving Back, Looking Forward (annual appeal) and by family tuition payments. Thank you for your support! We expect the renovations to be completed by mid-August or sooner.

Thank you also to the planning work of our staff and to our Facilities Committee, Finance Committee, and Board of Directors for their approvals of this valuable enhancement for our Crusader community.

In closing, please take a moment to be aware of the liberties that you enjoy and thank a military veteran or other special person for helping to make them possible.

God bless,
