Catholic Schools Week celebration includes essay contest for students

Scecina Memorial High School is planning a weeklong celebration during Catholic Schools Week from Jan. 28-Feb. 3.

National Catholic Schools Week is the annual celebration of Catholic education in the United States. The theme for 2018 is “Catholic Schools: Learn. Serve. Lead. Succeed.” 

During Catholic Schools Week, the National Catholic Educational Association promotes the 12 reasons to choose Catholic schools.

Scecina plans to celebrate the daily themes throughout the week. 

Another new activity is the Catholic Schools Week essay contest. One student will win $150. The guidelines are: 

WHO CAN ENTER: Any student at Scecina 

WHAT: Short essay (200-300 words) on how attending Scecina Memorial High School has helped you to learn, serve, lead or succeed. 

WHEN: Essays due by end of Friday, Jan. 26. Drop off at Mrs. Murphy’s office (Room 103) or send to: bmurphy@scecina.org. 

HOW: Essays must be typed. Student’s name, grade and email address should be listed at the top left of the paper. Grammar, spelling and punctuation will be considered. 

Winner receives $150 cash prize.
