The Scecina Memorial cheerleaders spent June through March supporting the Crusader athletes at football and basketball games, as well as at Senior Night for the tennis, volleyball, and soccer teams. In addition to cheering at 50+ plus games throughout the school year, the squad makes banners, decorates lockers, and provides sweet treats to the athletes of Scecina. But last Saturday, March 1, it was the cheerleaders' turn to stand in the spotlight as they competed in the annual Indiana Crossroads Conference Cheerleading Championship.
After months of intensive practice, the squad performed a nearly flawless routine, filled with difficult tumbling, sensational stunts, and crowd pleasing cheers. Motivated by the large contingent of Scecina parents, students, faculty and staff that came out to support the squad, your Scecina Crusader Cheerleaders earned a 3rd place finish!
This is an improvement of 5 places from last season, and it marks the first year that Scecina has placed in the top three since the competition began. This accomplishment is a true testament to the hard work and dedication of the cheerleaders, the commitment of their families, and the support of our school family.
“Since I began coaching here at Scecina in the summer of 2012, the cheer program has grown not only in size, but in the skill and ability of the athletes,” said Coach Cari Gallagher ’93. “Coach Jaci Gray and I are amazed everyday with the effort and accomplishments of this fantastic group of Scecina students. We feel blessed to be part of a program that is developing not only strong athletes, but outstanding Scecina ambassadors as well,” she added.
