On Friday, May 24, the 63rd graduating class from Scecina Memorial High School received their diplomas at Commencement. This event is a significant milestone in our young people’s lives, and we at Scecina are privileged to be part of our graduates’ life journeys. I have every confidence that our seniors will venture forth and continue to become the people whom God has created them to be.
The Class of 2019 is a talented group, indeed. Throughout the class, their college and career aspirations are broad and impressive.
The valedictorian, Katelyn Hartman, is a Regional Indiana Academic All-Star. Katelyn is headed to The Ohio State University to major in chemical engineering. She played volleyball all four years and was an important member of Scecina’s Academic Super Bowl Team that won the Indiana Crossroads Conference Championship and placed third at the state level.
The class salutatorian, Drew Smith, is an appointee to the United States Air Force Academy and participated in numerous extra-curricular activities at Scecina, including varsity football, wrestling and soccer and the Bowling Club.
Both Drew and Katelyn both are members of National Honor Society and are alumni of Holy Spirit School on the Eastside of Indianapolis. We congratulate their parents and them for their wonderful work ethic and contributions to school life here at Scecina.
In total, the Class of 2019 has earned nearly $10 million in college and university scholarship offers, which also is a testament to the quality of Scecina’s faculty and school counseling staff. Additionally, 13 members of the senior class have made commitments to play intercollegiate athletics, including at NCAA Division I schools.
As we wish the very best to the Class of 2019, I thank each of them and their families for choosing Scecina and for all the joyful moments that they have brought to our community. Thank you!
