Congratulations to Archbishop Tobin on his new role in the Church

Greetings,

The good news came, appropriately, on a Sunday. Indianapolis Archbishop Joseph W. Tobin learned this past week that Pope Francis will elevate him to the level of cardinal during a ceremony in Rome on Nov. 19. The pope on Sunday announced 17 new cardinals; Archbishop Tobin is among three from the United States. This is a great honor for Archbishop Tobin; all of us throughout the archdiocese can be proud as well as grateful for his vibrant pastoral leadership in southern and central Indiana.

In his statement about the appointment, Archbishop Tobin said: “I ask all people of faith to pray for me. I hope this new responsibility will make me a better servant of all Hoosiers.” You can read his entire statement on the website of the Archdiocese of Indianapolis.

Scecina receives very positive support from the Archdiocese of Indianapolis. I congratulate the archbishop and I encourage you, as he requested, to join me in praying for him as he takes on this important role in the Church.

Scecina celebrated some big events this week also. We hosted a very successful Open House and opened the doors of our new library.

Open House was a bustling evening as we welcomed many students and their families who were eager to learn more about opportunities at Scecina. Our own students also were involved leading tours. The Scecina Baking Club provided treats during the Community Fair in the cafeteria in the midst of numerous conversations about our sports, clubs, and student activities.

We’re already looking forward to the Class of 2021 joining us next fall!

The new library was a hit during Open House as we heard many compliments. Students and staff began using the new library this week; it’s a joy to have this uplifting new space for learning, studying and collaborating with an array of modern technology at our fingertips. During a visit to campus this week, a recent alumnus remarked upon walking into the library, “This is unbelievable!”

Finally, I hope you can join Father Paul Koetter at Holy Spirit Catholic Church on Oct. 26 as he leads an Explanatory Mass for parents and others interested in learning more about the Catholic worship experience. Come have your spirits lifted and your questions answered.

Enjoy the fall break!
