Dear Friends of Scecina:

The 2009-2010 school year is off to a great start, one of the best starts in recent memory.  Our dedicated staff and students have begun a new year filled with great promise in the classroom, on the fields and courts of competition, and in service to the community.  We continue to build on our great traditions as we explore new avenues to improve the entire educational program, curricular and extra-curricular, at Scecina.  It is a great time to be a Crusader.

Scecina congratulates the class of 2009 and wishes them the best as they begin their lives after high school.  These students as a class set new highs for academic excellence and achievement, earning over $4.25 million dollars in scholarships, making unprecedented gains on standardized tests, and producing eleven AP Scholars, including four AP Scholars with Distinction. These young men and women contributed to numerous achievements in extra-curricular activities, as well, including numerous ICC conference titles and IHSAA tournament successes.  The Valedictorian of 2009 embodied the spirit of this class and our school by finishing her high school career with sixteen varsity letters, designation as an AP Scholar with Distinction, and top rank in a very talented class. She not only led her class, she reflected the character of all the young men and women of 2009.

This year holds the promise of more great things. Our students have enrolled in eleven different Advanced Placement courses.  Our fall sports are wrapping up and our athletes are breaking new ground.  Our Boys' Cross Country team qualified for IHSAA regionals and advanced a runner to the top 50 of the Semi-State meet.  Freshman football posted a 6-1 record.  I mention these two sports together, because just four years ago, we only had two boys running and now our cross-country team competes with the best.  We look forward to seeing our freshmen athletes as they grow and reach their full potential, too.  Both these teams show what can happen when we "give that little extra".

In the coming weeks, we will induct our newest nominees into the National Honors Society, at 7:00 PM on November 12.  Our students will participate in a blood drive that same day, and we just kicked off our annual canned food drive, which will end November 19.  We will hold our second Senior Retreat the first week of December.  As fall sports give way to the beginning of our winter sports, I ask that you please support our students and staff in all these activities as they help educate all in spirit, mind and body.

Sincerely,

Mr. Tom Davis, Principal
