CHRISTIAN SERVICES

CATHOLIC THEOLOGY PROGRAM
Scecina exists because of our faith in Jesus Christ and His Church. Teachers at Scecina Memorial High School know that they share in the ministry of Jesus Christ; His ideals and teachings underlie whatever subject matter they may teach. The school strives to reflect its namesake, Father Thomas Scecina, and seeks to produce graduates who will be fine citizens. Catholic Theology classes help to examine the specifics of religious belief. Teachers present material under the guidelines and qualifications required by the Office of Catholic Education of the Archdiocese of Indianapolis. Catholic Theology is a required course for all students attending SMHS. All students must pass Catholic Theology each semester they are enrolled.

SACRAMENTAL LIFE
Spiritual Formation at Scecina Memorial High School revolves around the presence of Christ in the Sacraments, especially the Holy Eucharist. Mass is celebrated weekly at all-school Mass.  All-school Masses begin at 9:48 a.m. Masses will also be scheduled based on holy days or other special occasions.

The Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation is offered by individual appointment made with the chaplain at any time.

PRAYER FOR SCECINA
God our Father,

We give You thanks for Your many blessings, especially the gift of faith and life in Your Son.

We pray in thanksgiving for Scecina Memorial High School and ask for Your Divine grace as we work toward the Kingdom of Heaven.

Grant us strength to use the gifts and talents You have given us to the best of our ability.  And may we bear witness to Your life present in us, so that all we are is for Your glory and the good of our neighbor.

Help us to respect the dignity of all, to live the Gospel faithfully, and to seek reconciliation with You and one another.  May we always be open to Your call and live our vocations to the fullest.

We ask this through Christ our Lord,
Amen.

Ss. Francis and Clare, pray for us.

CHRISTIAN AWAKENING
The vast majority of seniors take advantage of the senior Christian Awakening Retreat, a three-day opportunity to examine moral strengths, relationships with God and others, and future goals.

All seniors are encouraged to attend one of the Senior Retreat opportunities, and a request not to participate must be approved by the Chaplain. If a senior chooses NOT to attend Retreat, THE RETREAT FEE ASSESSED BY THE BUSINESS OFFICE AT THE START OF THE SCHOOL YEAR IS NON-REFUNDABLE.

UNDERCLASSMEN RETREAT
Underclassmen have the annual opportunity to take part in a Day of Reflection, during which juniors spend the day at a local retreat center, while sophomores and freshmen stay at the high school for their retreat.

CATHOLIC THEOLOGY SERVICE HOURS PROGRAM
The Christian Service Program provides a unique witness to the local community, which benefits from the generosity of SMHS students. Each Catholic Theology class has a service requirement for students to fulfill, though many students go above and beyond the requirements of class, again embodying the school theme "To Give that Little Extra".
