Indiana legislature recognizes Father Tom's hall of fame honor
On November 4, 2016, Father Thomas Scecina was inducted into the Indiana Military Veterans Hall of Fame. It was a wonderful event. You can read more about the event on Page 4 of the Winter 2016 issue of the Father Scecina Magazine. Father Thomas Scecina was nominated by Tom Blandford ’65, a former U.S. Army Ranger, who has been very active member of Scecina's Veterans Committee.
A few week ago, Tom dropped off a big padded envelope at school. It contained a letter that he had received from Russell Dowden, chairman of the hall of fame, and House Resolution No. 6, passed by the Indiana House of Representatives. The resolutions recognizes the veterans who were inducted in November.
Dowden's letter said: "We are indeed honored to have Father Thomas Scecina as a member of the Indiana Military Veterans Hall of Fame. His presence as a Hall of Fame member brings honor to all Hoosier veterans."
The certificate and medallion from the induction ceremony are among other artifacts in the Father Scecina Display in the school's rotunda. We are going to have the letter and the resolution framed and we will place them in the display case with the other items.
Father Tom was inducted into the hall of fame along with George N. Craig, the state's 39th governor; Col. Harvey Weir Cook, World War I ace and pioneer in civilian commercial aviation; Charles Williams, the founder of Indiana Black Expo and eight others.
