George T. Newhart Jr., Chair

George Newhart, a 1960 graduate of Scecina Memorial High School, became Chairman of the Scecina Board of Directors, on July 1, 2016. He received his B.S. in Accounting and MBA from Butler University. George is a certified public accountant with over 40 years of experience in accounting, finance, investor relations and administration, most recently serving as vice president and corporate controller with CTS Corporation. 

At Scecina, he has served on the Finance Committee of the Board of Directors for several years and has generously supported our school through his gifts of time, talent and treasure.


J. Barry Schneider, Immediate Past Chair

Barry Schneider is chairman of the board at Schneider Corporation, as well as a third-generation owner. He is a Cathedral High School graduate and earned a B.S. in civil engineering from the University of Notre Dame. Barry is the Immediate Past Chair for the Scecina Memorial High School Board of Directors and its Executive Committee. He is an active member of the Board Facilities Committee and the Strategic Growth Plan Facilities Planning Area Team.  Passionate about servant leadership, Barry has served on the planning committees for the 2008 and 2012 Greenleaf Center’s Annual International Servant Leadership Conferences.  This includes speaking about servant leadership domestically and abroad. Barry, his wife, Krista, and their daughters are members of St. Louis De Montfort parish. He began his service on Scecina's Board of Directors in 2006.


Steve Hodgson, Vice Chair

Steve is the principal and chief operating officer for Wurster Construction. A 1974 graduate of Scecina Memorial High School, he received his B.S. degree from the University of Indianapolis and his M. S. in education from Butler University. He joined the Scecina Board of Directors in 2011 and is a member of the Facilities Committee. Additionally, Steve serves on the Board of Directors for the Mother Theodore Catholic Academies and the University of Indianapolis Greyhound Club. Steve and his wife, Jennifer, have two sons. 


Nancy Leming, Treasurer

Nancy is a 1985 graduate of Scecina Memorial High School. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree from St. Joseph’s College and currently works as the director for Private Banking with First Merchants Private Wealth Advisors. Nancy serves on the Executive Committee and is chair of the Finance Committee. In addition, Nancy chairs the Finance Commission for Our Lady of Lourdes Parish and serves as a CYO Board member and CYO Finance Committee member for the Archdiocese of Indianapolis. Nancy and her husband, Kris, have two boys Aaron ('14) and Matthew,a junior at Scecina. They are members of Holy Spirit Parish and Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in the Indianapolis East Deanery.


Father Bob Gilday, Secretary

Father Bob is the pastor of St. Therese of the Infant Jesus (Little Flower) Catholic Church, the parish where he was raised. He graduated from the Latin School of Indianapolis in 1967, received his bachelor of arts from St. Meinrad College, and then earned his S.T.B. from the Gregorian University in Rome. Prior to be named pastor of Little Flower in 2003, he had served at St. Malachy, St. Matthew, and St. Christopher parishes and as Vice-Vicar Judicial of the Metropolitan Tribunal of the Archdiocese of Indianapolis. Father Bob began his service on the Board of Directors in 2007 and is a member of the Executive Committee and the Mission Effectiveness Committee. 

 


Mike Delaney

Mike is a 1983 graduate of Scecina. He went on to earn a bachelor of science degree in accounting from IUPUI and is a certified public accountant. Mike is the director of operations for American Family Dental Group. He and his family are members of St. Michael Parish in Greenfield. Mike and his wife, Lisa (’84), have three children, all graduates of Scecina: Allison (’10) and Logan (’12) and Bridget ('16). 

 


J. Kevin Johnson

Kevin Johnson is a 1977 graduate of Scecina Memorial High School. Kevin is executive vice president and CFO for Kocolene Development Corporation, a holding company with several business operations. He chairs the Scecina Marketing Committee and sits on the Strategic Planning Committee. Kevin has been active in youth ministry, religious education, CRHP small group and the SPREAD program. Kevin and his wife, Lori (’77), have two children, Anne and Tommy. They are members of Holy Spirit Parish in Indianapolis’ East Deanery.

 


Marie McNelis

Marie was born and raised in Hamilton, Ohio, where she attended 12 years of parochial schools before pursuing dual degrees in elementary and secondary education at Miami University. After moving to Indianapolis, Marie attained a master's degree as a reading specialist from Butler University. 

Marie began her career in education teaching speech and dramatics at the high school level. She taught reading courses at Butler University and IUPUI, became a reading specialist at the elementary level, and in 2002 started an educational consulting business called Link to Literacy. Marie spent the last five years of her career as a District Literacy Coach for Washington Township schools. Marie now works part-time with a tech company called Lexia Learning. 

Marie has one son, Daniel McNelis, who attended Holy Spirit and Scecina. Danny graduated from Purdue University and works for Chase Bank. After 44 years in education, Marie is retired and enjoying traveling and a slower pace of living with her husband, Peter Noreika. 


Ron Mead

Ron recently retired from a 25 year career serving the Catholic health ministry in the United States. He most recently served as the senior executive at St. Vincent Health responsible for mission integration, spirituality, and ethics. He also served in leadership roles with the former Daughters of Charity Health System in strategy, administration, and operations. He is presently enjoying his roles in Catholic ministry stewardship as a board member of Scecina and of the Epiphany Association and Academy for Spiritual Formation in Pittsburgh.

Ron is chair of the Mission Effectiveness Committee of the Scecina Board of Directors. Since 2012, he has been an active member of the Catholic Culture Planning Area and Implement teams in our Strategic Growth Planning initiative. Ron earned a bachelor of business administration degree from Drake University and an MBA from Rockhurst College. He serves as lead faculty for the Epiphany Certification Program in formative spirituality in Indianapolis.


Jim Moloy

Jim graduated from Scecina in 1977. He received his B.S. degree in 1981 from Indiana University and earned his law degree egree, magna cum laude, in 1984 from Indiana University-Indianapolis. Jim is a partner with Bose McKinney and Evans LLP. Jim joined the Scecina Board of  Directors in 2011 and is also a member of the Finance Committee. He and his wife, Judy (’77), have four children and are members of Holy Spirit Parish in the Indianapolis East Deanery.

 


Sister Barbara Piller

Sister Barbara Piller grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio, in a family of musicians. She was educated by the Sisters of Saint Francis through elementary and high school. She received her bachelor’s degree from Marian University and a master’s degree from Marygrove College in Detroit, Michigan. She has been a Sister of Saint Francis for 57 years. 

Sister Barbara worked as an elementary and high school teacher of music and religion, serving as a teacher and principal at Little Flower Catholic School. This ministry was followed by creating and directing a program of personal growth for religious women from five different congregations. Since then, she has served as the Pastoral Associate at St. Pius X Parish in Indianapolis and for more than 18 years in leadership positions for the Sisters of Saint Francis at Oldenburg. 

Sister Barbara served on the Board of Directors at Oldenburg Academy for four years and the Board of Trustees at Marian University for eight years. Sister Barbara considers it an honor to now serve on the Board of Directors at Scecina and is grateful for the opportunity to serve Scecina and the Eastside once again. 


Nick Petrone

Nick Petrone is a consultant with netlogx, a consulting services organization specializing in Information Risk Management. Nick’s efforts are focused on the company’s Outreach program, building awareness and name recognition of the organization while also establishing and developing meaningful relationships and partnerships. Nick met the owners of netlogx, Nick and Audrey Taylor, during his time with the Family and Social Services Administration and quickly came to appreciate the Taylors’ tremendous expertise, professionalism and integrity. In 2011, when Nick was searching for his next career opportunity, he happily joined the netlogx family. Nick and his family are members of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish. He and his wife, Amy, are proud parents of Audrey (Class of 2015), Dominic (a Scecina junior), and Sophia (an eighth-grader at Our Lady of Lourdes). Nick’s interests include sporting events, politics and his faith. Having been privileged to serve in various capacities with his parish, Our Lady of Lourdes, Nick is excited to now join the Scecina Board as the Parent Ambassador Team Chair.


Rick Pfleger

Rick graduated from Cathedral High School and the University of Dayton. After four years as Vice President of Juniper Networks, where he was responsible for all direct and indirect sales and technical support activities in North America, he took early retirement to devote his energies to community service. Rick joined the Board of Directors in 2011. He and his wife Claire have been married 34 years and have two daughters, Lindsey and Lauren. Rick and Claire have volunteered in and funded several major initiatives at the Archdiocese of Indianapolis that greatly strengthened Catholic schools, especially in the area of technology. Rick served as the Vice Chair of the Legacy for our Mission Archdiocese capital campaign, and both Rick and Claire chaired the Christ our Hope annual appeal in 2010. Rick currently serves as a member of the board of trustees, as well as the executive committee, at of the University of Dayton.


 

Jim Roe

Jim is a 1968 graduate of Scecina Memorial High School and went on to earn a bachelor  of arts degree in political science from Indiana University. Jim is the president of Arlington/Roe & Co, a regional wholesale insurance broker, and chairman of the Development and Alumni Relations Committees of the Scecina Board.  He and his wife, Vickie, have four children and four grandchildren. Jim and Vickie are members of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish.

 


Julanne Sausser

Julanne Sausser is employed part-time as the Marketing and Communications Manager for Eco Partners, Inc., an environmental education company. She and her husband, Mark, were co-chairs of Scecina's Giving Back, Looking Forward Parent Phase. Mark is an attorney at Faegre Baker Daniels.

Julanne and Mark are the parents of two daughters; Leeann is a 2012 Scecina graduate attending DePauw University, and Caroline 2015 graduate and attend Miami (Ohio) University. Both daughters are graduates of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School, where Julanne was an active parent volunteer.

At Scecina, Julanne has volunteered frequently in the Advancement and Enrollment Management offices, and during the last three years, she has spearheaded efforts to help current Scecina parents reach out to new families. Thanks to Julanne and her team of parent ambassadors, new Scecina families feel welcome and have their questions answered before the first day of school. 


Rick Smith

Rick Smith, a 1969 graduate of Scecina, grew up on the Eastside of Indianapolis, attending Holy Spirit Catholic School and graduating from Scecina in 1969. He received a bachelor of science in accounting from Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis and then an MBA from the University of Indianapolis.

Professionally, Rick held various supervisory, managerial and executive management positions in the electric utility industry over his 38 year career. He retired from Entergy Corporation in New Orleans in 2013. Rick also served as an executive board member for Lighthouse for the Blind (New Orleans), Boys and Girls Club of Westchester County (New York) and the Nuclear Institute of Washington, D.C.

Rick and his wife, Patty (Nonte) Smith ’71, have been married for 46 years and are the proud parents of four and proud grandparents of 13. Rick and Patty reside in Zionsville, Ind., and own West Chase Golf Course.



Joe Therber

Joe is the president of Scecina Memorial High School. Previously, he was executive director of Stewardship and Development for the Archdiocese of Indianapolis. As president of Scecina, Joe is the chief administrative officer of the school. His responsibilities include strategic planning; fostering Catholic identity; growing the Mission Advancement program through marketing, alumni relations, enrollment management, and development; fostering deanery, community, and archdiocesan relationships; and overseeing business, financial, and facility affairs. Joe holds a bachelor of arts degree and a master of science in Administration degree from the University of Notre Dame. He and his wife, Angie, have five children, and they are very active in Catholic and civic projects in their community.


Father Chris Wadelton

Father Chris Wadelton is a 1984 Graduate of Bishop Chatard High School. He received a B.S. in Electrical Engineering Technology from I.U.P.U.I in 1990. For a number of years he worked in Electronics research under contract with Naval Avionics, then moved into Sales and Marketing in the Semiconductor arena in California and Oregon. 

In 2002, Fr. Chris discerned a call to the Priesthood, entered the Seminary at Mt. Angel Seminary in Oregon, and later studied at Mundelein Seminary in Chicago. He left the Archdiocese of Indianapolis to enter the OFM Franciscans on the West coast. However, ties to Indianapolis and family were too strong, so Fr. Chris returned to the Archdiocese in 2007. He graduated with an MDiv from St. Meinrad Seminary and was ordained a Priest for the Archdiocese of Indianapolis in 2009. His first assignment was as the Associate Pastor at Holy Spirit, Indianapolis, from 2009 - 2013. In 2013 he was assigned as Pastor of Holy Cross and St. Philip Neri, where he is currently.
