Thirty-five students were inducted as new members of Scecina Memorial High School's chapter of the National Honor Society in a ceremony at the school January 31, 2015.

All sophomores, juniors and seniors with a GPA of 3.45 and higher were invited to complete an application last fall. The applications were then reviewed by the chapter's faculty selection committee appointed by principal, John Hegarty. Members selected by the committee for membership met the required high standards of scholarship, service, leadership and character.

"We are very proud to recognize these outstanding members of Scecina's student body. National Honor Society members are chosen for and then expected to continue their exemplary contributions to the school and community," said Julanne Sausser, one of the chapter advisors serving along with President Joe Therber and Angie Therber.

Each year, the chapter sponsors a service project for the community. In March, members will be collecting toiletries for the Holy Family Shelter, and later this spring will conduct a litter cleanup day at Ellenberger Park.

The National Honor Society ranks as one of the oldest and most prestigious national organizations for high school students. There are chapters in more than 16,000 high schools and, since 1921, millions of students have been selected for membership.
