Scecina Memorial High School is proud to announce its valedictorian for the Class of 2018 is Molly Griffin. Molly earned a grade point average of 4.3 over four years at Scecina.
The Class of 2018 salutatorians are Henry Egan, Liberty Joson and Phillip Kozenski. They share a 4.25 GPA.
They all are involved in sports or other activities at Scecina and also challenged themselves academically. Each one took seven or eight Advanced Placement courses, which means they were doing college-level work while at Scecina.
“I feel lucky to have followed in my family’s footsteps and become a part of the Crusader family,” said Molly, a graduate of Holy Spirit Catholic School. Her father, Kevin, is a 1976 graduate of Scecina, and her sisters, Bridgette ’08 and Elizabeth ’13, and brother Connor ’15 also are graduates. Her mother, Maureen, is a member of the Scecina Women’s Circle.
“I loved all of the experiences Scecina gave me and all of the people I met throughout my four years,” Molly said, who took eight AP courses at Scecina.
At Scecina, she was president of Key Club, served on the Student Council and was a member of National Honor Society (NHS). She was co-captain of the volleyball team and the gymnastics team and played tennis.
Molly plans to study nursing but hasn’t decided which college she will attend. She has been accepted at Indiana University, Clemson University, Purdue and Saint Mary’s.
Henry is the son of Melissa and Kevin Egan and attended Little Flower Catholic School. He plans to attend either Wabash or Hanover. Henry plays violin in the orchestra and has been in the fall play. He runs cross country and track. His sister, Lydia, is a 2015 graduate and his brother, Walter, currently is a sophomore at Scecina.
Liberty, the daughter of Jennifer and Romeo ‘87 Joson, graduated from Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School. She plans to attend Purdue University in the fall. She is president of the senior class. She took part in theatre, with roles in the Spring Musical all four years and the Fall Play this past year. She has been a member of the Academic Super Bowl team, Rock Band, NHS, Rho Kappa Social Studies Honors society, Key Club and Student Ambassadors. She took seven AP courses.
Phillip is the son of Kathleen and Thomas Kozenski. He went to Holy Spirit Catholic School. At Scecina, he is active in the Robotics Club and took seven AP courses. Phillip’s top college choices are Williams College, Wabash and Oberlin. Phillip’s brother, Mitchell, is a 2016 graduate of Scecina.
