INDIANAPOLIS, IN (June 21, 2012) – Scecina Memorial High School is proud to welcome Rob New as its new Head Varsity Boys Basketball Coach.
Coach New has had a lifelong passion for the game of basketball. After his standout high school career at Wapahani High School, which included All-County, All-Conference, Anderson Regional First Team, and All-State recognition, Coach New received a scholarship to play basketball at Huntington University. Because of his many contributions to the Huntington basketball program, including a 53-point performance against rival Grace College, Rob was inducted into the Huntington University Athletic Hall of Fame in 2011. He is currently a Delaware County Hall of Fame member.
Since his playing days, Rob has remained connected to high school basketball by coaching a Junior Varsity team at Monroe Central High School. He currently supports local basketball programs and sponsors AAU teams to help develop young talent, in addition to being involved in the Indiana-Kentucky All-Star series every summer.
Rob’s drive and determination will be obvious and contagious in his new role as the Head Varsity Boys Basketball Coach for the Crusaders. “I am extremely excited to be at Scecina as the Head Basketball Coach,” says Coach New. “My initial impression is that the Scecina students are great, and everyone I have met has been warm and very welcoming. I look forward to this opportunity to work with the Scecina community.”
A Search Committee of community leaders screened, interviewed, and recommended finalist candidates to the school Principal and President. Members of the Search Committee are Steve Hodgson, Scecina Memorial alumnus and business executive; Ed Tinder, Executive Director of the Catholic Youth Organization; Aaron Shelby, Director of Urban & Sports Ministries of the Shepherd Community Center; Mike Henderson; retired teacher and coach of Cardinal Ritter High School and Marian University; Ott Hurrle, Scecina Memorial teacher and coach; and Jason Kehrer, Scecina Memorial Athletic Director.
