Scecina students bring 'Tarzan' to life on stage

Scecina senior Austin Keough (left) stars as Kerchak and sophomore Alex Hilcz plays Young Tarzan in "Tarzan: The Stage Musical,"  Scecina's spring musical. The musical will be performed at 7 p.m. March 18 and 19 in the Scecina gymnasium.

The students of Scecina Memorial High School will turn the stage into a jungle for “Tarzan: The Stage Musical” on Friday March 18 and Saturday March 19.

This Spring Musical production is based on the Disney movie that was released in 1999 and Edgar Rice Burroughs’ stories of “Tarzan of the Apes” that were published from the early to mid-1990s. The show features the heart-pumping music by rock legend Phil Collins, including the Academy Award-winning “You’ll Be in My Heart” as well as “Son of Man” and “Two Worlds.”

Scecina’s production features 50 students on stage, and several more as musicians in the orchestra and doing the sound, lighting and hair and makeup.

The show starts at 7 p.m. each night in the gymnasium at Scecina, with the doors opening at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $8 reserved and $6 general admission. For advance ticket sales, please contact Pam Brake at pbrake@scecina.org or at (317)356-6377 ext. 1212.

And don’t miss “Breakfast with Tarzan and Friends” from 9-11 a.m. Saturday, March 19, at Scecina. Tickets are $6 for one adult and child and $2 each for additional family members. Join us for breakfast, character meet and greet, activities and a preview of the show! Contact Margaret Zeh Fulford at mzeh@scecina.org for information or to purchase tickets.
