Transferring to a new high school right before senior year is not easy, but Scecina student Sydney Johnson has quickly found her place in the Crusader community. She is excelling academically with a challenging and diverse class schedule that includes two advanced placement classes, AP Biology and AP Language and Composition. Despite the rigorous course load, Sydney is on the honor roll. She has also earned Scecina Scholar Athlete recognition for the 2015-16 school year.

Sydney also found her home in the Crusader gymnasium. “At Scecina I had the opportunity to play woman’s basketball” she says. “I was able to develop as a player and a senior leader.” Passionate about personal improvement, Sydney never leaves home without her basketball shoes, a pair of gym shorts, and her player development notebook.

With graduation less than four weeks away, Sydney is looking ahead to the next step of her educational journey. She states “picking a college has been my biggest challenge.” She has decided on Wilberforce University in Ohio, where she was awarded a scholarship. Her other plans for the future? To crusade for equal opportunities for all.

Sydney is the daughter of Caroline and Ron Johnson. Her mother graduated from Purdue University and works as a claims manager for Progressive Insurance. Her Father also attended Purdue, he currently works in information technology.
