Senior Amelia Keenan Accepts Scholarship

Senior attends prestigious music academy in Michigan

Oct. 12, 2010: It’s not often that a student leaves all of her friends and favorite teachers behind three weeks into her senior year, but Amelia Keenan thought the opportunity was worth it.
Keenan was offered a scholarship to attend the prestigious Interlochen Center for the Arts in Michigan. She attended a camp at the school this past summer and decided to apply for a scholarship to enroll for her senior year.
Keenan is excited about an opera workshop she is enrolled in at Interlochen and is also taking several other music courses.
“Life here is secluded, but you never get bored,” she said. “I’m always busy practicing, doing homework, listening to music and socializing with friends.”
She hopes to make a career out of singing on stage. A variety of musical experiences at Scecina and her parish of Little Flower helped Keenan develop her talent and passion. Keenan played the lead role of Dolly in the spring musical, “Hello Dolly,” last April and also participated in the musical as a freshman and sophomore. In addition to her drama experiences, she participated in the choir, sang at weekly all-school Masses and was a member of the school’s rock band.
“We will miss Amelia,” said Mr. David Doebler, Scecina’s music teacher. “But ultimately, when a Scecina student earns an opportunity of this magnitude, it is an incredible honor for us.”
