The 2A State Championship Softball game is just a day away, and we asked head coach Cory Gray and some of the players to share their thoughts with Crusader Nation. Have a look!
Coach Gray: "First this team has had the talent that it needed to play like this all year. It was a matter of figuring what it took to get it out of them. We definitely had some tough losses and at times we really were not playing “Scecina Softball”. At the beginning of the year we established team goals such as, winning a conference championship, a city championship, a sectional, regional, semi-state, and a state championship. Other than the city championship loss, which was very tough, we have accomplished our goals and have a very good chance of obtaining our ultimate goal of a state championship. The tough losses didn’t affect our goals but they definitely gave us things to work on and to continually improve.
The fan support through the tournament has been very good. Due to the rain-out on Saturday at the Semi-State it made it tough for as many people to make the 2 hour 45 minute drive to Huntingburg on Monday, but many did, and they were much help in carrying us through to win a 1-0 game against Evansville Mater Dei.
To win a State Championship it will take great fan support and the girls leaving everything they have on the field for themselves, their teammates, their parents, their fans, and their coaches. We cannot be satisfied with just getting there. We are there to win this and we will!"
"It feels amazing and over due! I am very proud to represent Scecina and finish the year with a bang! It is truly our time!"

"It feels so accomplishing to be one win away from a state championship. My freshman year we were so close in semi state, but we lost and it broke our hearts. We remembered how it felt then, and responded with a win this time. We're ready to bring home a state championship not only for us, but for the Scecina community."
-Megan Whisler #21
"Since I'm a freshman it is extremely exciting and I'm not really sure how I feel...but it's a good feeling! It is one of the best feelings!"
-Lauren Ryan #5
"Really, the feeling is indescribable, but if I had to pick a word it would be amazing. Knowing that in my final year at Scecina I have a chance at winning a state title with my favorite team that I've ever been on is just an amazing feeling. Going out "big" with a blue ring would be amazing, as well as knowing that we proved everyone wrong who said we couldn't do it."
-Elizabeth Lee #20
"The pressure is tremendous. Scecina has only won four state championships ever, so to win one ourselves is a chance to be remembered and recognized as a part of Scecina history for generations to come. We're so close.. It all comes down to this one game."
-Ria Rebein #3
"Just when I thought my freshmen year couldn't get any better! It's crazy to think we're going to state, and even better to think that we get to keep playing softball."
-Caroline Friedly #25
"Everyone said we couldn't do it. No one thought we would ever make it this far, yet here we are. We have the talent despite what some people say. As a freshman I am completely honored to be a part of the second softball team in Scecina history to make it to the State Championship. This game is it. I can't wait to play hard and hopefully come out victorious. We are getting those blue rings!"
-Maggie Mayer #2
"To be one win away from a state title is a feeling for me like never before. It feels good to prove ourselves to some who had doubted us through this tournament. We had a major turn in coaches and even players, but that didn't stop us. We have a great coaching staff that has pushed us to become the players we are. The amount of excitement our team has for state is unreal and we cannot wait to get out on that field and give it all we have one last time this season."
