  • Student Ambassadors represent Scecina as Archdiocese celebrates Catholic schools

    Why were six Scecina students in Downtown Indianapolis this month at the iconic tailoring shop favored by Colts quarterback Andrew Luck?  The four girls and two boys are Scecina Student Ambassadors who have the distinct honor of representing Scecina Memorial High School at the Archdiocese of Indianapolis’ 22nd annual Celebrating Catholic School Values: Scholarship and Career Achievement Awards on Feb. 22.

  • Students reflect on Scecina experience in essay contest

     This year, I decided to sponsor an essay contest during Catholic Schools Week. I wanted to hear directly from our students about how their Scecina experience reflected the Catholic Schools Week theme of “Learn. Serve. Lead. Succeed.” 

    The essay contest was voluntary and didn’t involve classes and teachers. The 14 students who decided on their own to participate wrote compelling essays that were heartfelt and convincing.   • Scecina senior who overcame adversity is honored by Kiwanis

    Sarah Rayl’s grandmother died seven years ago. That was the last time the Scecina senior saw any of her biological family.

    People at Scecina see Sarah as a happy student who doesn’t seem to have many cares. Most don’t know that she spent 11 years in foster homes, starting when she was just 2 months old. Or that her biological parents gave up custody of her and six siblings because they couldn’t care them. 

    Sarah lived in 11 different homes and attended many different schools in Fort Wayne.
