Student Spotlight: Anthony Battles

Sophomore Anthony Battles was a recipient of the 2014-15 President's Academic Excellence Award. He plays three sports and maintained a 3.88 GPA last year.

Each week the Scecina Student Spotlight will introduce the Crusader Community to a current Scecina student.

By Cari Gallagher '93

The inaugural edition of the Scecina Student Spotlight focuses on Anthony Battles, a sophomore from Little Flower Catholic Parish.

Anthony is an outstanding student athlete who maintained a 3.88 GPA while playing football, basketball and baseball during his freshman year at Scecina. Last year, he was a recipient of the President’s Academic Excellence Award as well as the Scecina Scholar Athlete award.

Anthony says that maintaining straight A’s while playing three sports was one of the toughest challenges he has faced.

Anthony is committed to keeping up his grades as he starts his sophomore year. He especially enjoys math class and is taking Honors Algebra II. On the athletic side, he is back for a second season of Crusader football. On the field, Anthony believes in the motto “Coaches coach, Referees ref, Players play.”

Away from school, Anthony is passionate about sports, family (40 first cousins on his mom’s side!), and his friends. He is considering a few colleges, especially the University of Louisville, but he also is looking at the "home" universities, such as Indiana, Purdue and Ball State. He would love to play sports in college, too. His career plans are to coach athletics or become involved in sports broadcasting. Anthony would like to host ESPN SportsCenter one day.
