The Daily Drive

Student-led Initiatives Impact the Community

From mid-October through January, hardly a day passed without SMHS students leading the school community in efforts to enhance the greater community. While students annually give back through Service Day and the "Extra" Service Program, a number of student life clubs "give that little extra" to those in need.

Below are a few highlights!

Students drop off their donations during the annual Canned Food Drive sponsored by the Student Council. This year the drive succeeded in collecting over 9,200 cans.

Members of Scecina Memorial's Key Club hosted a Winter Warmth Drive in January. The school community responded overwhelmingly, by donating 283 items. These donations were sent to Catholic Charities of Indianapolis to serve those in need during this winter of record cold temperatures.

Scecina Memorial hosts two Blood Drives each school year in partnership with the Indiana Blood Center. This year, 140 students and staff signed up to donate blood. Those donations translate into 390 patients who benefit from our school's efforts!

In its 6th year, the Annual Pants Drive succeeded in loading another truck full of pants for those in need. On average the Pants drive collects more than 4,000 pairs of pants on behalf of Beggars for the Poor--an organization of St. Vincent de Paul.
