Watch for Jesus

Dear Scecina Community,

Advent and Christmas . . . two of our most favorite times of the year. Most, if not all, of us have fond memories of Christmases past.

Last weekend at Mass, on the first Sunday of Advent, the main theme was “Watch”: For Jesus in our hearts. For Jesus in our family, friends, and neighbors. And for Jesus confident that he will come again at the time of God’s choosing.

I believe I have seen Jesus often in recent days. I frequently interact with alumni and parents who are infinitely devoted to God, Scecina, their children, and various worthy causes.

I experienced Saints Peter and Paul Cathedral last week full of high school seniors from all Catholic high schools in the Archdiocese of Indianapolis. Archbishop Charles Thompson ministered to their hearts and minds with his words and images of wisdom.

This week, many of our seniors are experiencing God’s love through people in their lives. They will see and hear Jesus during their Christian Awakening Senior Retreat.

Last week, I saw Jesus’ hands in a room full of education leaders in our city who are deeply vested in serving children of all abilities and backgrounds.

The Indianapolis Urban League chose Scecina as one of a handful of schools in metropolitan Indianapolis that excel in many dimensions of their service to young people, their families, and their communities.

The keynote speaker at the Urban League luncheon, nationally syndicated columnist Roland S. Martin, spoke of excellent urban education as the most life-changing cause that our country has now and will have during the coming decades.

Here at Scecina, our young people are learning and growing, and they are capable of so much going forward. They need us to show Jesus to them. I thank you for what you do that enables this to happen.

May God’s peace fill you and yours with faith, hope, and love during the memorable weeks ahead.

Sincerely,

Joe Therber
President
