Monsignor Paul Koetter, pastor of Holy Spirit Catholic Church, explains aspects of the Catholic Mass to Scecina students on Sept. 21, 2016. Father Paul will lead a similar Explanatory Mass for parents on Oct. 26, 2016, at Holy Spirit.
Greetings, Crusader Community,
What is a Catholic Mass all about? What does it mean? What is happening during Mass? To answer these questions, we have planned two versions of an "Explanatory Mass," one for students and one for parents.
At this week's school Mass time on Wednesday, Monsignor Paul Koetter presented the Explanatory Mass to our students. This time together was not an actual Mass, yet all expectations were the same as if we were having Mass.
This idea for an Explanatory Mass emerged in discussions of the Eastside Catholic School Partnership Board (pastors, principals, and president of Holy Spirit, Little Flower, Our Lady of Lourdes, and Scecina) about how to enhance Mass attendance and understanding among our youth. You may want to ask your child about the Explanatory Mass they experienced this week.
For our parent community, we will have another Explanatory Mass on Wednesday, October 26 at 7:00 p.m. at Holy Spirit Parish, 7423 East 10th Street. Father Paul again will be the presenter. Depending on the number of questions, the Explanatory Mass will run about an hour. We welcome all parents-and students and community members -- to attend.
The Catholic Mass is a large part of student life at Scecina. We attend Mass every week and get the chance to celebrate together with different priests from throughout the East Deanery. We want to make the experience as enriching and meaningful as it can be.
I hope you can join Father Paul and others in our community on Oct. 26 at Holy Spirit.
More good news: The opening of our transformed library is nearing. Monday, Oct. 10 is the targeted opening date. We look forward to sharing the finished product with you soon. Click here for pictures of construction in progress.
