Wrestling Program Gains Momentum

It was a great day of competition for the Scecina wrestling team at the Guerin Catholic Invite on January 10. Wrestlers from Culver Community, Ft. Wayne Carroll, Brebeuf Jesuit, Shelbyville High School, Scecina, and Guerin faced off in some very tough matches. Coaches Bobby Sponsel (‘04) and Quinn Carrico (‘09) had looked forward to this opportunity to match up with teams they hadn’t yet seen on their schedule, and both were proud of our boys’ efforts. Freshman Athen Christopher (126 lbs) saw some varsity action, stepping up to wrestle for senior Ben Hilcz who suffered a shoulder injury against a Brebeuf opponent. Special congratulations go to Senior Chris Wilson who came away with 5 wins—including 4 pins. Coach Carrico recounted, “Wilson recently moved to the 170 pound weight class, and his hard work paid off. He looked rejuvenated. The whole team looked good, and we built momentum heading into conference this weekend.”

All are welcome to cheer for your Crusader wrestling team at the conference championships on Saturday, January 17 at 9:00 a.m. at Beech Grove High School.

Okay, i'm a girl... and i really want to join the wrestling team. my mom is worried about me being on it.
i'm also a vision problem. so i need to keep all contact to the person. and i was wandering what you think. I've wrestled through my middle school year. so i have experience. please get back to me, if you have any idea what i could do, and what i should do to convince her to let me n the team.
