Thanks to Crusaders wrestling supporters, it was a great year
By Jim Donlan
Scecina Wrestling reached out for help in 2017, and many of you responded! Because of many generous gifts, the wrestling program was able to purchase two lightweight, roll-up wrestling mats that allowed Scecina to host six home dual meets, three five-way invitationals, and the first Central Indiana JV Championship.
The donations provided new singlets and warm-ups for our athletes. There's also a renovated wrestling room that looks great and is a safe environment for the team and the Eastside CYO wrestlers that are considered Crusaders-In-Training. The wrestling program also honored former teacher and coach Mark Steinmetz as the first member of the Scecina Wrestling Hall of Fame. Scecina Wrestling alumni, veterans, and public safety workers were invited to our meets.
The 2018-19 season was amazing for Scecina Wrestling, and it could not have happened without this generous support. The team had a theme for this year: "We aren’t here to take part, we’re here to take over," and the wrestlers did just that.
Among the accomplishments:
- 23-3 regular-season record
- First place in the Tri-West and Guerin Catholic invitationals
- Four Indiana Crossroads Conference champions
- Eight wrestlers to the IHSAA State Tournament Regional meet
- Six wrestlers to Semi-State meet
- Season record 134 pins
- Coaching staff voted Regional Coach of the Year
- Wrestlers of all ages training 12 months a year for no cost with the Crusader Wrestling Club.
The athletes’ success is a direct result of the Scecina Community's generosity. Would you like to visit the new wrestling room? Give Rose Branson a call at 317.352.3292 to schedule a visit.
The team especially hopes to see everyone in the stands next season as we work toward sending some Crusader wrestlers all the way the State Finals at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.
The Scecina Community's generosity has been a blessing to Scecina Wrestling. The wrestling coaching staff thanks everyone.
