The National Honor Society (NHS) at Scecina Memorial High School honors students who demonstrate exceptional achievement in scholarship, leadership, service, and character. NHS is one of the most prestigious academic organizations in the nation, and Scecina is proud to be part of this tradition.

Purpose and Values

Founded in 1921, the National Honor Society was established to recognize and encourage academic excellence while also fostering a commitment to leadership and service. Membership is not only a recognition of past accomplishments but also a commitment to continued involvement in school and community life.

Scecina’s NHS chapter upholds these core pillars:

  • Scholarship
  • Leadership
  • Service
  • Character

Eligibility and Selection

Membership in NHS is open to juniors and seniors who meet the following criteria:

  • Scholarship: A cumulative GPA of 3.45 or higher
  • Service: At least 30 hours of verified volunteer service to school, church, or community
  • Leadership: Demonstrated leadership in two or more activities or roles
  • Character: Positive teacher recommendations based on integrity, responsibility, and conduct

Academically eligible students are notified at the beginning of the school year and invited to submit information regarding their service and leadership. Final selections are made by a faculty committee.

Student Involvement

Scecina NHS members participate in a variety of service projects that enhance school life and support the community. Past activities have included:

  • Decorating faculty doors
  • Organizing appreciation efforts for teachers and staff
  • Supporting campus-wide service initiatives

A Lasting Impact

By recognizing students who excel academically and serve with integrity, Scecina’s NHS chapter helps shape compassionate, committed leaders for the future.
